SDGs in Non-formal training settings

Coalition 2030 is an alliance of civil society organisations working to ensure that Ireland keeps its promise to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, both at home and abroad. Its mission is to transform our world through collaborative partnerships that will free the human race from the tyranny of poverty and want, and to heal and secure our planet. Showing solidarity with those marginalised in society is a key value and organising principle of Coalition 2030, with the goal of ‘leaving no-one behind’, both in Ireland and throughout the world. 

Membership is open to all civil society organisations across the domestic anti-poverty and equality, international and environmental sectors, trade unions and academic institutions.

Coalition 2030 exists primarily to ensure that the Irish government fulfills its commitment made in 2015 to deliver the SDGs by 2030. To this end, Coalition 2030 engages with the Irish public and policy-makers to increase their awareness of and engagement with the SDGs. 

This work includes

1) Policy and Advocacy on Domestic SDG Implementation,

2) Public Engagement and

3) Coalition Building.

The Irish Congress of Trade Union (ICTU) is the largest civil society organisation on the island of Ireland, representing and campaigning on behalf of some 800,000-working people. There are currently 44 trade unions affiliated to ICTU, from both north and south of the border. ICTU seeks to achieve a just society - one which recognises the rights of all workers and citizens to enjoy the prosperity and fulfilment which leads to a good quality of life. Quality of life embraces not just material well-being, but freedom of choice to engage in the arts, culture, and all aspects of civic life. This vision applies in the context of Ireland, Europe and the wider world and challenges the existing economic order.

ICTU Global Solidarity Committee.

Millions of workers around the world are living in poverty. This is no accident. It’s a political choice that puts increasing corporate power above protecting workers’ rights, decent work and having universal access to free quality public services. We’re standing with workers in the Global South to demand an end to poverty and inequality, and for decent work to be put at the heart of development. We work closely with both on international matters that have an impact on working people both here and around the world.

And, Democracies for People, with a focus on supporting workers on the frontlines of increasingly autocratic governments and the extreme right. Where governments repress workers’ rights, and where exploitation of workers, denial of freedom of association and collective bargaining is part of a companies’ business model, we aim to support and international response. 

ICTU’s Global Solidarity Committee (GSC) has specific remit to engage in activities and events relating to the, Human rights, Social justice, Development Aid, Sustainable Development Goals, Just Transition. The Global Solidarity Committee comprises of nominated members from different trade unions  and Trade Councils in Ireland. The Committee’s has set out an action plan to advocate for and create awareness of the UN SDGs in workplaces, communities, and political environment.
