Reflective questions

The facilitator can use the following prompts to engage participants:

  • How old is the building? Is it warm/cold, dry/damp, clean/untidy, etc.
  • How many windows are there in the building? Are they in good condition and draft-free?
  • How many doors are there on the premise? Are they of good quality and draft-free.
  • How many light bulbs are there, what type of bulbs, are there sensors to turn electric on and off?
  • Are all the appliances/equipment powered off during non-use times?
  • Are there recycling facilities?
  • How do staff travel to and from work?
  • What improvements could be done quickly without much cost incurred?
  • What improvements would require expert advice and costings?
  • What works practices/operations could be changed to improve sustainability?
  • What renewable energy sources could be considered, and what are the costs?
  • Are there any grants available to assist in workplace design for sustainability?
  • Can the local trade union and employer set up a Sustainability Working Group?
  • Is there any expertise in the community, trade union, employer association that could assist? Is the premises near local amenities? List them?
